So we decided to drive to the Spring Quilt Market this year, since it was relatively close by in Pittsburgh PA, and since neither my husband nor I have ever been to our nation's capitol, we stopped by to visit at the head of our trip. And how about that! We were not even there 5 minutes and just look who we ran in to! Well OK, maybe this guy was just a good facsimile... The first morning we walked thru Arlington National Cemetary, and took in the Kennedy gravesite. (I did not know that Jackie was buried next to John, but I like that.) Then headed back down to the National Mall where we walked and walked and walked and walked! I had heard much about the wonderful Washington Metro system, and it was indeed easy to figure out and was a great to get around Washington. The only thing is, there is still a LOT of ground to cover on foot between stops. Thank goodness I had my trusty Chacos sandals on.
They are the best!Anyway, we spent some time at the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial, (Here's Bubba looking up the name of a friend from highschool) checked out the Korean War memorial and the WWII memorial. They were all impressive.
Here's Bubba standing in the very spot were Martin Luther King Jr stood to give his famous "I have a Dream" speech. Can you just imagine that lower area totally clogged with people? That must have really been a sight! But was that the reason that my husband wanted to take in this view? Noooo! One of Bubba's favorite movies is Forrest Gump, and of course if you've seen this movie, you probably remember the scene where Jenny was wading across the pool to get Forrest's attention! Oh well, at least we both enjoyed the view! All in all- we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and highly recommend if if you haven't already been!
The White House tour, (which I was REALLY excited about) turned out to be not such a big deal, but i guess we're fortunate that they let us come near that house at all!!
After two days of doing the tourist thing, we packed up and resumed our travels to Pittsburgh and the Spring Quilt Market!
