Bunicula lives!

So we had just gotten underway to church Sunday morning. It was early (7 am or so), and all was quiet in the neighborhood. We turned the corner to head out to the main drag and there he was! A great big black and white cat I had never seen before. (For those of you who don't know me, I am crazy about a good looking guy in a tuxedo, especially those of the feline persuasion, and there's currently two of them in our house.) I was in the process of pointing him out to my hubster when lo and behold, he lifted his magnificent ears... and WOW! "That's a rabbit !", I fairly shrieked. I got that incredulous look that told me he didn't believe it, (and who would?), so I insisted he turn back to look again, and sure enough, there he was, contentedly munching on my neighbors pansies.

I figured he was an escapee, imagining some poor little girl sobbing herself to sleep the night before, because her furry friend was gone. I got out of the car to see if he'd let me touch him, but noooooo... he scampered into the woods... gone. When we got home I did some investigating and found out that this handsome guy has been hanging around for about 2 weeks and get this, there's actually TWO of them. No one knows who they belong to, and repeated attempts to find his owners have yielded no results. They let no one touch them, have set up housekeeping in a neighbors natural area and the local kids have named "them" Bunnicula, after the namesake in that beloved series of books that featured a black & white bunny with vampire tendencies.

I've been carrying my camera in my purse for days, in hopes of getting a picture of Bunnicula (partly to silence the skeptics) and tonight I got my chance. Isn't he wonderful? But as much as I love seeing them, without benefit of camoflage, the future could be grim for these beauties. Unless of course... there's some truth to the Bunnicula legend....

  2. I can't resist a cat either but one evening when I was out for my run I decided to pet the pretty little black and white kitty sitting along side the road. However before any petting could occur we both ended up running in opposite directions. Skunks don't like to be touched!
