Purse Evolution (Diary of a purse pattern) Step 2

(As promised, here is the second post in the "Purse Evolution" series.)

Ok, so I'm inspired... so what next? Well generally my next step is to dig out my sketch pad and see if I can incorporate my inspiration ideas into practical form.

I had a couple objectives in mind for this bag pattern.
First and foremost- I want this bag to be large enough to comfortably accomodate the Encore Purse Insert, since I only have one handbag pattern in my line so far that can do so.

Second- I want the draping of the bag sides to reflect my ruching inspiration (see yesterday's post).

Third- The side ties in this sketch should be faux ties, non-functional, for embellishment only. The bag should function perfectly well with or without them.

Fourth- I want the Straps to attach to the bag and be held in place by some Strap Holders. Because the Strap Holders conceal the bottom end of each Strap, an optional embellishment could be added that would hang out under the Holder and display on the front of the bag, ie; beads, cords.... whatever.

And Last- I intend for the bag to have a deep side opening, (to make it easy to take the Encore Purse Insert in and out), so the interior contents of the Bag will be kept secure by side vents, as shown in this second picture.

Of course you know what they say about the best laid plans... Stay tuned to see how many of these objectives become reality in a finished product, our new purse pattern! And speaking of which... this new pattern is as of yet, without a name. If you have any brilliant ideas, I'd love to hear them and of course if you have any comments pro or con, do share them!!

  1. I follow your patterns .....does that make me a stalker???....nah....I am the lurker on the Yahoo group. The thing is I knit and your bags have just the thing knitters need.....room and the inserts are just the added bonus for keeping our "purse things" tidy so we can have both....knitting and stuff in the same bag. I love the idea of this new bag.....Will be waiting anxiously for the pattern debute.
