It's only been recently, (since getting into my new studio), that I've had the time and space to get my head back into the game, and I must say, I'm pretty pumped about this new bag now. And, since the sample construction & design elements are pretty secure now, I'm ready to start 'the slow unveil'. So... let the chronicles begin!

As usual, it all starts with an inspiration, and for me, inspiration usually comes in the form of an intriguing shape. I like to peruse various websites to see what's new and hot in terms of fashion. Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters are two of my favorites, not for shopping mind you! Heavens no! I'm way beyond trying to wear the latest fashion, but I do find that it's important to keep abreast of the latest trends when you're in the field of design.
For example, I've noticed that ruffles and bows are two of thenewest & girliest trends this season. This blouse by Cynthia Vincent is indicative of how ruffles are being used in vertical layers this year.

Horizontal layers of ruffles are also showing up in several collections this spring, and this dress by J.Crew is a fine example of how beautiful they can be.

The ruffle trend is so prevalent that it's even showing up on such accessory items as shoes and jewelry. Just check out these Salvatore Ferragamo pumps!
(If I wore these, I'd be in a cast for 9 weeks!)
So there you have it... are you inspired? well probably not, but do you think you might have an idea of what design element my new pattern will emphasize? I bet you might. But stay tuned for the next installment of Purse Pattern Chronicles to see how this pattern unfolds!
I love to challenge myself and try new techniques so I do look forward to your chronicles... this is inspiring!! Possibly my next challenge will be deciding which handbag pattern to try next.
ReplyDeleteNow those shoes are beautiful. So much of high end footwear seems to be a joke or torture mechanism. Yes, they're high, but those ruffles are to die...
ReplyDeleteIt's gonna be a ruffly bag isn't it? Ruffles are everywhere it seems. Just not on me......well, maybe a couple on a bag would be okay ;)
