Message Board Anyone?

So when my son-in-law (who I think is brilliant) was here at Christmas, he recommended that I consider the possibility of putting a message board system on my website. His reasoning was that message boards were the up and coming thing. He said they build community, a place for visitors to exchange ideas, opinions and information with others that share similar interests.

I must admit, I really didn't know that much about message boards at that time, but when Steve takes the time to suggest something to me, I generally listen (did I mention that he's a genius?) So I've been checking them out. It does seem that Message Boards have the potential to be much more interactive than the cumbersome Chat Rooms can be. And it would be a quick and easy place for customers to get information, recommendations and advice. But what do you guys think? Do any of you have experience with Message boards on other sites? If so, what features have you most enjoyed on your favorite Boards? I would love to have your feedback!

  1. I like the idea - we can never get enough chats or messages from you.:) You share your info in such a good way, and funny. Thank you. I would like to see you have a message board. *~~Carol~~*

  2. I am a huge fan of message boards! I met my hubby on an ACC sports message board! We have a bunch of close friends that we met through the Boards as well.

We still participate in discussions there and chat on a local (Chatham County) message board too. It has proved to be a friendship builder and valuable resource for all sorts of answers to where to find stuff we want/need.

    Go for it!

  3. I used to belong to a few Yahoo message boards; have narrowed it down to one. With Yahoo, you can keep the message board there and link it to your website.

No matter how you choose to do it, your frequent (daily) participation/ monitoring in the message board will be critical. You may want to consider whether you have the time to add this to your schedule too. You're very active on your blog, have a great newsletter, and your monthly contest--and have a grandchild on the way ;) . I'd hate to see these things, and new pattern development, get pushed aside due to time constraints.

  4. You're right Jillian, those are concerns of mine as well, but I'm hoping to pick up a few moderators along the way! If I can do that, then the workload might be feasible.
    :)
