Question of the Week #4

First of all, thanks to everyone for all the wonderful comments left here on this blog, as well as on my Facebook page and in emails, sending well wishes on the birth of my grandson. He and his parents are doing great and we all love him more everyday!

But it's time to get back to business, and since it's Sunday, that means it's time for another question of the week, and here it is...

Question #4- What one thing would you choose to do, if you knew that you would not fail?

Me? I would learn to fly. I don't mean commercial flying. I don't even even mean in a small plane. I would love to learn to fly in one of those gliding planes. The kind that don't have engines and have to be dragged aloft and then set free to sail silently along  the wind currents above the clouds,  just like birds, until they finally succumb to gravity and gracefully descend to earth.

I've had a recurring dream throughout my lifetime in which I actually CAN fly. (With my arms, like a bird.) And in these dreams I've flown over mountain peaks and spanned oceans. It's exhilarating, and it seems to me that gliding would be the closest thing to really experiencing the freedom of flight.

But here's the deal-  I have a paralyzing fear of falling. I can't even watch other people do things in which they might fall. Heck, ladders even give me the creeps. Let's face it, I'm a total weinie about heights. The very thought of looking down and having nothing solid underneath me would probably give me a stroke. So...this just isn't going to happen. Oh well...

But how about you? What would YOU do, if you knew you could not fail? I'd love to hear your responses. You can leave a comment below, or if you prefer, you can also comment on my Facebook page, or in the Kat Talk Forums.

  1. I can tell you it would not be flying!!! I have flown a couple of times but didn't like it at all.

I'd choose to be a star of stage and screen. When I was a kid I pretended to be Julie Andrews, Doris Day and countless others as I sang and danced with records in the living room!

  2. Since I am retired and did the one thing I wanted to do, I'd have to say 'teaching'. Feel I didn't fail, either :=) Now I just want the time to piece each of my children and grandchildren a quilt.

  3. Yes, flying! I've been up in a small personal plane several times (dated the pilot for awhile) and absolutely loved it! He tried to scare me but I wasn't. I also dreamed I could fly when I was a kid. But it was running as fast as I could until I just took off into the air.

  4. Me, too. Nothing on this planet excites me as much as watching small jets take off and fly by. Nephew is Marine pilot and I've watched him fly by, take off & land and I could do that day & night. Since I can't learn to fly those fabulous jets, my next dream is to stand on a carrier and watch the aircraft take off.....Preferably at dusk!! And most of all....George the nephew...
