Cat Games

My cats have radar. We've talked about this before. For example, they materialize out of nowhere whenever I brush my teeth so they can get some fresh water straight from the tap. Within 10 seconds (and yes, we have timed them) of opening a package of ham, they are 'singing in unison' for a nibble.

Ok- you may or may not be impressed with that, but check this out!
My cats know when I'm changing the sheets. Don't ask me how. I've even tried being as quiet as possible to fool them, but it doesn't seem to matter. Sometimes I can get the bed stripped before they appear....but without fail, before I can get even one corner of the clean fitted sheet in place, it's all-out WAR!

First they jump into the middle of the clean sheet in an effort to keep me from grabbing another corner. These are both BIG cats, so believe me when I say this really turns into a struggle because they both defend the remaining three corners voraciously.

Once I get hold of a second corner, and eventually I do, they generally go into their 'under cover' attack mode.

From here, they race me to the next free corner. My guess is, since they can't see me, that they think I cannot see them, but of course theses big bodies are difficult to miss as you can see. This whole process can take 25 minutes or more (depending on how much fun we're all having). And they dig it so much under the sheets, that they've been known to stay under they for hours on end (just in case I return I suppose).

Putting the dark, heavy bedspread (which they HATE) on top of the sheets is the only sure fire way to flush them out... unless of course you open up a package of ham!

  1. The sad part is that my cats are better at these games than I am....

  2. Our boys come running at the sound of sheets too. Eventually, we give up and have a lumpy bed.

  3. Over the last 30 years we have had 5 cats and they ALL have loved the bedmaking game. Some fought the sheets and one loved to smooth the sheets with his paws. My current sweetie will stay under the sheets for hours blankets, spread and all in the winter when the weather is cold.

  4. If I'm in a hurry to get the sheets changed, I close the bedroom door. How cruel is that? They lay on the floor peeking under the door, telling me they want to play "sheet peek".

  5. I don't feel so bad. I have a 20 lb cat who does the same thing. 2 weeks ago I broke my toe running into my husband's dresser in my effort to get my cat off the bed so I could make it.

  6. What's Up with the BedMaking~my BIG kitty does the same thing! It's one of his very favorite playtimes. He can be out in his "Catico" and hear the sounds of bedmaking and zip there he is! Twenty minutes later I MAY have the bed made. BTW ~ his name is "ZIP"
