Fun in the Big Apple!

In front of the NEW Yankee Stadium

So...they opened up a great, big, new baseball stadium in the Bronx last year and the hubster and I have been dying to see it ever since. (We LOVE the Yankees!) We had a trip planned in mid-June... but our plans had to be shelved because of pressing family matters. So we crossed our fingers and decided to try again this month...

Our tour was originally scheduled through Broach Sports Tours and I can't speak highly enough about how kind they were about changing the dates for this trip. They are a 1st class outfit, and I HIGHLY recommend them for any sports trip in your future.
(Click here to see our itinerary for the weekend.)

Here's how beautiful the INSIDE of the stadium looks!

We got to see a little everything. A thrilling walk-off hit by Nick Swisher...Homeruns by Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada...a one-pitch save by my hero, Mariano Rivera... and wins in 2 out of 3 games.

In addition, we got to spend some free time in the city, checking out the sights. And I must say, it's been over 25 years since we've been in the city, and I have NEVER seen it looking better. Hats off to Mayors Guliani and Bloomberg for really cleaning up the entire city. I hardly recognized Harlem and the Bronx, and Manhatten looked spectacular.

We made our way down to the World Trade Center site to see the rebuilding progress being made. It was my first in-person view of the skyline minus the Towers, and it's still quite emotional.

American Express designed a very beautiful and touching memorial tribute to the employees they lost in the 9-11 attacks.

We took a little time to stroll thru Central Park and even visited "Strawberry Fields", Yoko's tribute to John Lennon, which is located across from their apartment in the Dokota on West Central Park Ave.

And of course what trip to New York is complete without taking in the lights at Times Square, and a delicious italian dinner at Sophia's.

Our weekend seemed to be over much too quickly, but one things for sure... it will NOT take us another twenty-five years to come back to New York this time!

I'm so glad you guys had a great time! Yes! New York has changed and it's gotten a lot cleaner in my opinion.
