PPC2: Back to the Drawing Board

Purse Pattern Chronicles- The Sequel
(This post is part of a continuing series focusing on the development of a new handbag pattern from its initial conception to it's release.)

So in the first post of this new series, I told you about my inspiration for this new design... that being the soft squishy edging of 80's-style balloon curtains. Now all I had to do was figure out how to incorporate it tastefully into the pattern.

After several false starts, I settled on this drawing to the right. I'm thinking that I want to put the balloon-style edging around the rim of the bag and on both sides of what I envision as a Kangaroo style pocket in the front. (Appropriately enough, I'm trying to come up with a Kangaroo inspired name, which isn't difficult, but what IS difficult, is coming up with one that is not already in use, but more about that later.)

I want this bag to be slightly taller than it is wide and of course I want folks to be able to use either the PortaPockets Insert OR the Encore Insert with it. I want to design in it such a way that the bag will mold itself to the interior contents, so that you can carry a little (and it looks good) or you can keep loading stuff in it, (and it STILL looks good.)

I'm very inspired by this bag and I'm excited to show you more. It's significantly different that anything I've done before and I think it will appeal to a WIDE variety of women. Stay tuned for our next post in this series because you'll have a ring-side seat as we attempt to get the balloon-edging look that we are after!

  1. I like this alot so far, especially the side pockets. Do you think it will be between 10-12 inches wide? I tend to like the smaller bags....
