Question of the Week #27

I don't know about you, but I LOVE to go out to eat. Maybe it's because I'm really not that good of a cook, or maybe it's because I really do not LIKE to cook. But either way, when we go out, we really do not tend to eat at the big chain restaurants. We prefer local, established, family-type restaurants, and this is true even when we're out of town, in which case we usually ask a policeman for a recommendation. Which of course is the lead-in to this week's question...

When you eat out-
what restaurant genre do you prefer?

It's no secret that I LOVE good Italian food. And our favorite place to eat Italian in our area is BLL Rotisserie Factory in Winston-Salem, NC. I know what you're thinking. That doesn't really sound like an italian restaurant, does it?

And I'd have to agree. You know, I've often wondered why the owners decided upon this name, because italian food selections definitely outnumber anything else on the menu. (and everything I've tried in the menu is terrific!) They do in fact serve rotisserie chicken. In fact, this may be at the root of why my hubster and I like this restaurant so much, because while I could eat italian every other night, he likes a little more diversity, and he says the chicken is really the best in the city.

So if you're ever in our area, eat at BLL Rotisserie Factory. I give it 5 stars!

So how about you? What is your favorite genre of restaurant?

  1. As long as I don't have to cook, anywhere works for me! If I go with my daughter's family it is usually to a Thai restaurant.

  2. We have a local bar/restaurant that we frequent, Elmhurst, that we are on Tuesdays for half price pizza. The bag patterns are great there! When I carry one of your bags in get lots of compliments!

  3. We don't eat at the chain restaurants either. Our hands down favorite is a Mexican restaurant in our town that has been in business for 50 years and we have been going there just about that long. There is also an Italian restaurant that has been here since the early 1970's where they make their own pasta. Another Mexican restaurant and a Chinese place. Also the best steak house we've ever been to is here in Fort Collins, CO

  5. our favorite place is IHOP on 34th St S., in St. Petersburg, FL. The food is good, but the PEOPLE make it for us. Everyone from table busser to mgr. greet us and makes us feel like we are at home with family. and they alway make extra effort to prepare food according to our requests.

  6. BillHubby avoids chain restaurants like the plague but we will stop at a Waffle House or IHOP on occasion. The service is always wonderful and the food is what one would expect from a short order diner. We always order breakfast type foods.

We especially love a restaurant here in Pittsboro, NC - Virlie's. Family owned and just really good food. No one is a stranger there as the owners make sure to meet and greet all.

Where in W-S in BLL? I miss Sam's at the Thruway Shopping Center. We seemed to eat there either before or after every Wake Forest basketball game we attended back in the "old days." And the Village Tavern is still near and dear to my heart. Many a date night there.

  7. BLL is on Hawthorne road, right across from Thruway. It's REALLY easy to not notice. It's kinda under the Stratford mini mall. :) Try it- you'll love it!
